Psychotherapy Associates of Tampa Bay, L.L.C. always complies with HIPPA regulations. All information discussed is in therapy is confidential and protected by law (when applicable). This includes the client's right to control the release of information, as well as the right to access certain types of information regarding their treatment.
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission/consent.
Exceptions to confidentiality include the following circumstances:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which Dr. Tommasi is required by law as a mandated reporter to report to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, Dr. Tommasi will notify law enforcement and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to self-harm, Dr. Tommasi will make every effort to enlist their voluntary cooperation in insuring their safety. If the client does not cooperate, Dr. Tommasi will take further measures without the client's permission that are mandated by law in order to ensure their safety.
